Helping Hands: A Quilting Marathon

Saturday, September 19, 2009, brought women from all across Michigan to three locations to participate in the Quilters Against Cancer annual quilting marathon: Helping Hands.

All levels of quilting experience, from beginner to expert, donated their time to make a total of 38 quilts and 12 quilt tops. The unique opportunity provided a time of fellowship to share interests, skills, and a desire to help women that have been diagnosed with breast cancer which have no health insurance.

Our goal was to create as many quilts as possible during the 12 hour period. Stations were set up for every aspect of creating a quilt, from cutting the fabric out to using long-arm quilting machines to complete the quilt.

Quilters Against Cancer will hold the next quilting marathon on Saturday, September 18, 2010. As women continue to come together to help one another in their time of need, QAC is proud to announce the marathon will be held at four locations in 2010. Returning locations will be Cronk's Oakridge Resturant in Newaygo, Interquilten in Interlochen, and Quilted Memories in Montague . We are excited to have Friends Quilting Basket in Lake Odessa join forces with us.

Quilters Against Cancer would like to invite you and your guild to join in on the fun September 18, 2010. The 9-hour marathon will take place in 3-hour time blocks. You may sign up for one, two or three time blocks or the entire period if you desire. Your participation will be rewarded with prizes given during each time slot.

Sign up early to get your preferred quilting time.
